30 Day Gourmet’s BIG Book of Freezer Cooking Giveaway!

The holidays are just around the corner and one thing I’ve been doing these past few days is making my mental list of all the items I’ll be making in an upcoming freezer session. Sure, I’ve got my freezer meal swap group, but the holidays are extra busy and one thing I started doing years ago was filling my freezer so that we could have healthy meals on the table but still take time to enjoy many of the special activities happening during that time of year. It’s a practice I encourage all of you to do–even if it’s only a few extra meals to get you started (remember, baby steps, right?)

I am new to freezer cooking! So excited to turn our freezer full of beef (from home-grown cows) into a freezer full of meals. I've got our recent harvest from our garden that needs to be used too! I've ready to go, I just need the ideas! I also recently bought a pressure cooker and am excited to use recipes from freezer to pressure cooker. Tried a couple and it is fantastic! I've already been 10 days straight without eating out! That is a new record for me and my family! Its great to know I am serving healthy meals and saving money!

When I can buy meat in bulk I prepare it for future meals and portion it out (dicing ham, browning ground beef, etc.). For the holidays, I bake cookies and freeze ahead of time so I can pull them out for trays at Christmas.

My favorite freezer tip is to let whatever you're freezing cool to room temp. before putting it in the freezer. Prevents those nasty ice crystals from forming on the top of the food during freezing!

What's not to love about Freezer Cooking? I've learned so much over the years and am still perfecting the craft. One of my favorite tips is to freeze casseroles in an 8x8 pan (most recipes that say 9x13 can be made into two 8x8). Once frozen, pop them out and slide into a Zip lock bag. When you're ready to cook, take out of the freezer and put back in the pan to thaw. You don't have to buy disposables and your pans are not forever lost in the freezer.

I always freeze a small portion of my main meal since I'm a chronic over-cooker. Then I use that as a lunch or dinner fill-in item.

Ahh, there are so many things I love about freezing meals. My favorite thing is when I make a casserole or something like Mac & cheese, I have found it requires no extra work to make two and keep one in the freezer. I love being able to pull dinner out of the freezer that required minimal work! Another fav is to freeze that last serving of a leftover dinner instead of tossing it in the trash...for leftover night there is always something for everyone and everyone seems happy;)

I totally love the ultimate in freezer cooking...dream dinners...my tip is they have recipes for 3 or 6 servings...always defrost 1 or 2 more portions of meat to prepare with it because the sauce is plenty.
