Welcome to Try-it Tuesday on Meal Planning Magic! Try-it Tuesday is a weekly series that I started a few months ago on my blog’s Facebook page. Each week, I list a type of food ingredient (can be a fruit, veggie, spice, meat, whatever) asking for readers’ favorite ways to cook or enjoy. Sometimes they’re just new ways to eat in their basic form, other times the ingredient receives multiple recipe suggestions. Now that I’ve got several ideas, I’m going to be adding the more popular results here on the blog.
With summer coming to a close—at least as far as school starting is concerned—this week’s item is GRAPES. Today I’m sharing a collection of Five Ways to Use Grapes!
Several ideas were shared but I have to say one of our new favorites is frozen grapes! Why I have never tried this before now I have no idea! Our family tends to prefer the purple grapes over the green ones for freezing but any type will do (I think because we prefer the purple over green unfrozen too). My daughter has especially been enjoying them. Just yesterday she commented, “Mom, these grapes are like candy but candy that is good for you!” And then she grabbed another handful. Win-win, right?
Here are some other suggestions from Facebook followers:
Jennifer S. says:
Frozen grapes are surprisingly delicious. It’s like a guilt-free bite-sized Popsicle! Green grapes are especially good frozen. Tiffany L. agrees!
Amy F. says:
I am lucky enough to have wild concord grapes growing all over the yard so I make jelly and juice every fall.
Gretchen T. says:
Chicken pasta salad with red seedless grapes cut in half and Old Bay for seasoning–one of my favorite meals!!
Tess F. suggests:
Fresh squeezed Chardonnay grape juice–omg! Also love them in Waldorf salad, and in Middle Eastern flavored meat turnovers. We live in wine country, and what’s really awesome is if you can get hold of the wine grapes rather than table grapes. The flavor is 100x’s more magnificent!
Dawn D. and Angela S. both suggest putting them in chicken salad such as a Waldorf Salad.
And Nicky from Our Little Family Adventure says her family also loves them frozen but she has taken that notion one step further and created a Grapeberry Granita. It looks delicious and so summery!
So be sure to snag some grapes at the grocery store next time while they’re in season. You can freeze them to enjoy any time and be reminded of summer, too! What’s your favorite way to enjoy grapes?
