Food Revolution Friday {Keeping It Real}

It’s been raining a lot this week in Texas due to Hurricane Alex so we’ve been stuck at home a bunch. Consequently, I’ve had a lot of time to hop around the net to discover lots of new blogs while the kids are playing with their friends. This week I stumbled upon Notes From the Cookie Jar’s Food Revolution Friday.

Remember awhile back I talked about Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution to change the way our nation eats? Well, this blog has taken things one step further and challenges its readers to come up with a new, real-food dish to serve their families.

For us that means Greek Tacos–one of our favorites! You can see that our ingredients are all fresh and made from scratch. Well, I actually used a box mix to make the falafel, but it is made from all-natural ingredients. I’ve also started making my own flat bread (using a Cook’s Illustrated recipe) which is way easier than you might think!

Ingredients for our Greek tacos include:
steamed basmati rice
falafel patties
diced tomatoes
diced cucumbers
plain yogurt
crumbled feta cheese
homemade flat bread

Layer all the ingredients in the flat bread, fold, then eat!

My family LOVES this meal and it’s one thing I know my kids will eat every last bit of. That’s a winner in my book! And I can feel good knowing I’m giving them a dish that is not only delicious but all-natural too!
