At the beginning of the summer I picked up a Taste of Home smoothie recipe book at the grocery store. I asked my kids to mark the ones that looked good to them for us to make–and that ended up being most of them! So, we’ve been making a lot of smoothies this summer for breakfast and afternoon snacks. I have a freezer full of frozen fruit (some picked up at bargain prices) so we’ve got lots of good options. Add a little low fat yogurt and a few other ingredients depending on the flavor combo you want and not only do you have a yummy drink you have something that is good for you too!
With all the smoothies we’ve been making, we sometimes have some leftovers. Smoothies don’t usually taste that great when you put them in the refrigerator and save them for later (the ingredients tend to separate). So instead of throwing out the leftovers, we pour it into our freezer-pop maker, freeze and then we’ve got a yummy “Popsicle” to enjoy on a hot day! You can find freezer pop-makers at lots of dollar stores, discount stores like Target or Wal-mart or even department stores (we found ours, above, at JCPenney in their summer seasonal section).
Such an easy and delicious summer snack! But shhh! Don’t tell the kids they’re good for them–you can keep that between you and me!
