5 A Day-The Better Health Cookbook {Cookbook Review}

The message is everywhere (and not just here)…eating more fruits and vegetables is something that everyone needs to do to eat more healthfully. But it can seem like a daunting task to get those five servings a day. It seems like a lot! But this book can be a big help.

What I love about this book is that it tells you what vitamins and other nutrients are in different produce items–they are sorted by color so you can more easily identify the types to choose for you and your family based on the specific health concern you may have (if any)–or just make it more fun to find colorful foods.

Author Dr. Elizabeth Pivonka is president of the Produce for Better Health Foundation and has done a great job to simplify the message and give practical, usable tips on how to incorporate more fruits & veggies into your diet. The rest of the book is a cookbook with many, many yummy sounding recipes that of course, include fruits & veggies! Several are marked with hints that help you choose a recipe based on your specific needs…like “30 Minutes or Less” or “Make Ahead” or “Kid Friendly”. Following each recipe is a nutrition chart–but the bonus is it also tells you how many Number of 5 A Day servigs there are!

Check it out!
